No, Magnet Programs are free to students.

No, you will need to complete an application to enroll your child in the Broward County Magnet Programs. Placement in a Magnet Program will be based on space availability, along with academic/talent criteria at the secondary level.

Pompano Beach High School (PBHS) does not have a boundary like other comprehensive high schools in Broward County, therefore, no middle schools feed automatically into PBHS. All students must complete the magnet application process in order to attend.

However, if your child is in a Magnet Program which is the same theme offered by PBHS, and meets the academic criteria, he/she will be given priority placement in filling the available seats. There is no automatic transfer. Currently there are two middle school magnet programs which receive priority status into Pompano Beach High School: the International Language magnet at Crystal Lake Middle School and the Information Technology magnet located at Pompano Beach Middle School.

No. However, if your child is in a Magnet Program and applies to a secondary magnet program in the same theme by the deadline date, and meets the academic criteria, he/she will be given priority placement in filling the available seats. If a student chooses a different theme, priority placement WILL NOT be given. There is no automatic transfer. • Unweighted Grade Point Average: 2.5 (Core classes)
• Florida Standards Assessment scores (English language arts and mathematics): level 3 or greater. If FSA scores are not available, applicants must provide nationally recognized standardized test scores in reading and mathematics: score 50% or greater.

The application period for Magnet programs in Broward County opens during the first week of December and the deadline is usually some time in the first week of February and there is another application period in May. Applications are available online at www.browardschools.com/schoolchoice.  An application is required for each student that is applying.

A random computerized selection process is conducted to assign available seats to PBHS. The vast majority of incoming students each year are in the ninth grade, however, depending on student enrollment, additional seats may be requested for lottery draw for grades 10 and 11.

If an applicant is a sibling of a student who is currently attending, and will continue to attend PBHS during the next school year, they will be given priority for a seat if available. If there are more sibling applicants vs. seats available, a random computerized selection process will be conducted to award sibling seats and create a sibling wait-pool.

A sibling is a biological, adopted, foster, half, or step brother/sister who shares the same parent/legal guardian as a student that is currently attending PBHS and will continue to attend PBHS for the following school year.

No, magnet programs are by application only and do not provide a priority for employees throughout the district.

Yes. Tracking your child’s status or making changes to your child’s application is fast and simple. Just log on to Parent View, then enter your confirmation number and the student identification number for your child. Changes to the application will be accepted until the deadline date.

After the application deadline, parents will receive written notification from the Demographics & Student Assignments Office regarding the status of the application. The letters will be sent to the address on your child's school record and should arrive during the month of March. If your child was chosen to attend PBHS, you will receive an email and/or a phone call from someone at PBHS with the day and time that you are to report to register for classes. If you do not hear from PBHS with a date to register, contact the school at:754-322-2000. If your child is not accepted this year, you must reapply next year.

No, once your child is selected he/she may continue to attend PBHS until they graduate high school.

No. You must register your child before he or she can attend PBHS and there is a deadline for registration. Therefore, if you cannot make the initial registration, please call the school and schedule a time to come in to register your child to guarantee a spot in the program.

Yes, transportation is provided at no cost by The Broward County School District to and from Pompano Beach High School for Magnet students who reside more than 2 miles from the school and who live north of Sunrise Boulevard. Visit the transportation page for more information

If your child is not selected in the initial lottery draw, he/she will be placed in the PBHS wait pool. We encourage that students stay in the wait pool through the spring and summer because PBHS loses students every year during the summer due to various reasons, and there will be additional pulls from the lottery, please click here for a list of dates. Students have until the tenth (10^th) day of the new school year to enroll into a magnet program.
